Inspiration

Crowds are a huge danger in society today and an immense fear among consumers. Everybody hates crowds at the gym. But in today's world, more and more people are cancelling their memberships in favor of safer, less congested exercising methods. Gyms are struggling and need a way inspire people to come to their facility and feel safe. GymSplat is the answer.

What it does

We use computer vision to track utilization on the gym floor in real time and monitor congestion levels in every section of the gym. The gym manager is notified when occupancy reaches a critical point.

The gym member can view popular hours at their gym as well as the current gym occupancy in order to plan around crowds. They can also reserve their favorite machines in advance in order to avoid waiting in lines.

How we built it

We used swift and Xcode.

Challenges we ran into

Finding an Emory student.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have a functioning web and mobile app as well as a working computer vision system.

What we learned

We learned a lot about virus transmission modeling.

What's next for GymSplat

We plan to expand out service to university and big box commercial gyms to help them reopen in the aftermath of COVID-19.
