Inspiration
As an avid weightlifter and bodybuilder, I have always hated waiting in lines at the gym. Every day, for the past two years, I have thought of ways to make the gym experience easier. GymSplat is the answer.
What it does
GymSplat is a mobile app that makes the gym experience easier for everybody by minimizing the time constraint to physical activity. We provide projections of gym utilization as well as real-time gym utilization. Instead of waiting in lines for the bench press or squat racks, gym members can now reserve a machine via the reservation system. In addition, the scrollable, clickable, and zoomable gym floor makes it easy for users to find their desired machine and leave feedback.
How we built it
We built the app in Xcode using swift and we used MongoDB for the backend.
Challenges we ran into
It was difficult to get the map of the gym floor to display the proper resolution. We also had some issues getting adequate footage for our computer vision algorithms to work. Our biggest problem was working with the Google API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
In 24 hours, we built a functioning app that will be useful to all members of the CRC.
What we learned
We learned a lot about planning and implementation during the app building process. In addition, we made advancements in our computer vision technology.
What's next for GymSplat
In March, we plan on giving our follow-up pitch to the Senior Director of the CRC. We plan on expanding the use of computer vision to determine machine availability at the gym. In the future, we want to expand our business model to include athlete gyms and commercial gyms.
