Inspiration ✨
As students aspiring to study computer science, we often find ourselves stuck to our chairs, hunched over our computers for hours on end. After extended periods of time spent like this, we have experienced not only premature back pain but also a decrease in energy levels and overall well-being. This is why we wanted to bring the gym to our own computer workspace - and that's how Gymify was born!
What it does
Gymify is a motivating space that encourages people to get moving. It greets people and asks them to check in with how they're feeling, which is paired with personalized advice. Gymify also provides guides to stretching, a daily challenge, an upbeat music player, a selection of workout activities, and a place to reflect on their accomplishments.
How we built it
We used Glitch to collaboratively code our website and used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
Our team was inexperienced with coding a website, so figuring out the details and syntax of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript was certainly a primary challenge. Since we decided to implement a lot of different features, several of the functions were hard to implement and sometimes overlapped with other code, which was messy to debug. In addition, our coding was frequently interrupted by Glitch's failure to process too many requests.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're very proud of the UI/UX of our website since conveying an encouraging and positive vibe to our users is extremely important for our goals. It was also our first time video editing, and we decided to have some fun with it, so we hope you enjoy it!
What we learned
We gained a lot of experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and video-editing. Beyond this, we learned how to come up with executable ideas, how to stay motivated as a team, and how to work through several unexpected challenges. Furthermore, we learned more about project development and management.
What's next for Gymify
We would love to build a supportive community within Gymify to cheer on everyone as they get more active every day. This would most likely require users to create accounts, as well as community guidelines to keep Gymify users thriving.
