Inspiration
Growing up, our group all shared the common experience of the gym being a daunting and scary place to begin working on yourself - despite having the desire to get healthier.
If we found it daunting, the so called "iPad kids" of this generation have a hard trial ahead of them. So we decided to make their transition easier - to make the gym a place to meet friends, and form groups that will take their time away from the screens, and boost your health and fitness through collaborative (or maybe competitive) means!
What it does
It acts as both a social media channel and has the feature to build groups in order to motivate individuals into heading to the gym. Here you can set your daily workout routines, as well as do daily tasks to build a streak!
How we built it
We built this as a T3 app, utilising the trpc framework. The front end stack uses react and tailwind
Challenges we ran into
Modifying the database to work around the exercises and workouts framework - where users can have their own exercises, and mix and match them for their own customisable workouts!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Overall connecting the frontend to the backend and being able to have dynamic data with each login
What we learned
Ambition vs what we could get done within the time frame. Implementing the core features of getting our app to work - distinguishing between the must haves and the nice to haves!
What's next for Gymbunnies
The expansion process hopefully will allow individuals to plan meets with groups, as well as "gameify" the process of going to the gym with coins and tokens - which can potentially be a partnering opportunity with large gym franchises to motivate individuals to go further!
