Inspiration

I saw a lot of books at the bookshelf in my home. The extra books were bundled and thrown away. From then I thought that I needed to do something about this problem. Later, when I found a book at my friends house which I searching for a long time, I figured out what could be the solution to this problem.

What it does

GYB TYB uses a digital platform to collect un-needed printed books and share them with those who really need it. Using this platform, the users can search for their required books from millions, uploaded by others. The platform will provide an excellent opportunity for those who are fond of reading books to get them at a very low price from the owner. Repeated sharing of printed books will reduce the production of paper, save millions of trees, and will make the Earth greener.

How we built it

I built it using my skills in developing apps for android. This app was made completely from scratch in android studio. I used XML for designing, java for the backend, and firebase's database. I also used Google sign-in is also integrated in this app.

Challenges we ran into

I ran into some errors while designing a custom list view and making an array adapter for it. However, I soon figured out how to do it and continued with the project. Uploading and retrieving user-uploaded images from firebase storage was also quite difficult but in the end, I resolved it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am really proud of how much of an application I was able to make in a day. Most importantly all the features that I wanted to add, have been successfully added.

What we learned

I learned that developing an app in a day is not easy. If we don't put our full concentration on the project then, it will be next to impossible for us.

What's next for GYB TYB

Next, I'll be adding some more features to GYB TYB like - In-app messaging, Payment options, and Notifications and then I'll uploading it to the play store.
