Inspiration

As college students, we are all too familiar with the struggle of procrastinating studying until the last minute. The pressure of upcoming exams can weigh heavily, leading to stress and anxiety. Sifting through multiple chapters in multiple books and navigating the abundance of information online can be overwhelming, leaving us feeling lost and unable to focus. This problem is faced not only by myself, but by 20+ crore students across India who are constantly battling exams, tests, and assignments, leaving them little to no time for other skill-development activities or a social life. The constant pressure and stress can take a toll on our mental health, leading to burnout.

Solving this problem was our inspiration to create Gyaan Setu.

What it does

Gyaan Setu is a platform which works as a one-stop shop offering a simple and straightforward way to take notes, where all you do is input your topic of interest and let the algorithm curate the most relevant, concise and organized content for you. If any of the output is not required, all you need to do is delete it with a single click! Now take notes by DELETING them!

Gyaan Setu, a web app, saves time for students and professionals by compiling and curating all necessary information on a topic in one place. This allows users to take notes by deleting unnecessary information and focuses their time on what they need to know, reducing stress and freeing up time for other important tasks. Gyaan Setu also promotes the sharing of curated content amongst the community, so on the communities page, you will be able to see notes saved by various users from our own universities and even others organized by the course, department and subject. A main advantage of this is peer sharing and it is going to be so simple for the teachers to create their own notes and let students access the best material for achieving excellence.

Architecture of Gyaan Setu

The architecture of Gyaan Setu utilizes Azure on multiple levels, including hosting the static web app and API on App Services. The Gyaan Setu algorithm, which lies at the core of the app, uses the Bing web Search API and Azure Cognitive Services for text summaries.

Unique Selling Points

  • For learners of all levels
  • Not a search engine
  • Time Saviour
  • Easy to pick up where you left off
  • Calculates the time needed for each topic
  • Outputs only necessary content
  • Avoids distractions

Challenges we ran into

A main challenge we are facing is the speed of the output being generated. It takes a little time for the algorithm to run, and there are other functionality that we could have added like QnA generation but that only adds to the time.

What we learned

We have distributed the web app amongst our own peers to help them study for our upcoming mid-semester exams. Mainly, the users have found the UI friendly. But, as can be seen, there are some unnecessary nodes that are also outputted by the algorithm. We are working on fixing this by integrating NLP in the algorithm so that no content is repeated.

What's next for Gyaan Setu

Gyaan Setu has a plan to expand and scale its services in the future. This year, after refining the algorithm and incorporating feedback from beta testers, the platform will be launched by partnering with schools, colleges, and government agencies. In the future, new features and functionalities will be added based on user feedback and market demand and the platform will be expanded to other languages. Gyaan Setu will also introduce new pricing plans and revenue streams, develop a mobile app, and invest in research and development to stay ahead of the competition.
