Inspiration
A combination of personal health journeys and the immediate excitement/brainstorming when our time saw this track influenced us to take action on this question.
What it does
We intend to create a website that can collect personalized user info, such as health information, dietary restrictions (such as allergies or religious observances), and user goals to produce recommended daily calorie intake, suggested recipes for breakfast/lunch/dinner, and a tracker to help users stay accountable and see progress.
How we built it
Initially, we ensured our understanding of Macronutrients by utilizing the following link: link As well as skimming through and finding relevant passages from the following: link
We then utilized our individual strengths in Python, Web Stack Development, and R to overcome the various challenges faced in this project. At a very basic level, we could break up our progress as such: Front End (User inputs): Web Stack Back End (Calorie Calculations, Recipe Requirements): Python Data Mutations (Accessing data from a free API + Cleaning): R
Challenges we ran into
Our challenges included (but were not limited to) the following:
- Communicating between R, Python, and a Web Stack
- Finding relevant and accurate information from the NIH, NOM, and USDA
- Managing and allocating tasks to efficiently complete this project
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As this is our first hackathon, being able to identify a problem statement and define clear deliverables as quickly as we did was something our group was very proud of.
What we learned
We have a lot to learn!
