The inspiration for this project sparked from my own experiences as a student navigating the often-overwhelming dynamics of classroom learning. I realized that many students, including myself, faced difficulties in communicating their academic struggles to tutors. The fear of being judged or simply not wanting to stand out in a crowded classroom often led to problems going unnoticed. As a result, students remained silent, tutors remained unaware, and learning gaps widened.

One particular instance stayed with me. A classmate of mine, who was always quiet, struggled with a subject but was too shy to ask for help. It wasn’t until exam time that the extent of his difficulties came to light—when it was too late for tutors to intervene effectively. I thought about how many other students might be in the same situation, suffering in silence, their challenges hidden behind good attendance and a polite smile.

On the other side, I noticed how tutors, despite their best efforts, often lacked insight into individual student struggles. In large classes, it’s nearly impossible for them to track every student’s progress or identify when someone needs help without clear feedback. This gap in communication—between students wanting help but not asking, and tutors wanting to help but not knowing who needs it—was a significant problem.

What truly drove me to act was the realization that both students and tutors wanted the same thing: better learning outcomes. But the mischievousness of students, the discomfort of asking for help, and the overwhelming responsibility of tutors made it difficult to achieve. I saw the potential of technology to build a bridge—a safe, discreet, and effective way for students to report their struggles and for tutors to get real-time feedback on where attention was needed most.

This personal understanding of the barriers students face, combined with the empathy I had for the challenges tutors experience, became the driving force behind this project. I was determined to create a system that would remove the fear and hesitation from communication, making it easier for students to reach out and for tutors to respond effectively, fostering a more supportive and responsive learning environment.
