Inspiration
The Gundam characters look cool and a typeracer sounded both fun and not too difficult so we decided to make a typing game that involved 1v1's between the players who each pick a Gundam character and fight to the death using animated sprites.
We wanted to match the fantastic theme of this years Knight Hacks with the Mech vs Kaiju. We were going more for a streetfighter type of look like at opening ceremony but this proved hard to implement.
What it does
It allows for competitive outlet between mechs and kaiju. Players take part in a duel of the keyboards and shows once for all whos got the grit, MECHS OR KAIJU!?!?
How we built it
MERN STACK, NEXT js for frontend, Node js and Express for backend. MongoDB for the database. Seth led the backend team, while augustine led the frontend team.
Challenges we ran into
Sockets to make it seemless to ready or unready between parties. Certain backend implementations were hard to make work fully when implemented. Delegating tasks amongst members of the team, maintaining
Accomplishments that we're proud of
IT WORKS!!!! It is such an accomplishment that we have all successfully made both our first ever web app in 2 of our cases, or first ever game in all of our cases.
What we learned
All of us learned a ton this weekend making web applications, some of us began the weekend without a complete idea of what frontend, backend, and databaes were, and how they all connected together. Not only did we overcome this obstacle but we flew passed any expectations we had for the weekend. We are truly proud of the experience we had this weekend.
