Inspiration
Creators often manage sales, customer messages, refunds, and payment issues across many tools. I wanted to bring those daily business decisions into Slack, where teams and solo creators already communicate and work. Gumroad Pay Assistant turns Slack into a lightweight command center for creator commerce.
What it does
The app provides Slack slash commands for sales and support workflows. /gumroad-summary weekly returns a creator sales summary with revenue, top product, refunds, customer issues, and recommended actions. /gumroad-issues today shows payment and customer problems that need attention. Interactive Slack buttons let the user draft replies, create discount ideas, export reports, prepare retry links, and mark issues reviewed.
How we built it
I built the demo as a Slack app with slash commands, interactive buttons, and a Node.js backend. Slack sends command and button payloads to the backend through an ngrok HTTPS tunnel. The backend returns Slack Block Kit messages that simulate a creator commerce assistant using sample sales and support data.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was setting up the Slack sandbox, app installation, slash command routing, and interactive button callbacks correctly. I also had to debug the local backend and ngrok tunnel so Slack could reach the app and return action follow-ups reliably.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud that the demo works end to end inside Slack. The app has a branded Slack identity, multiple slash commands, structured sales and issue summaries, and interactive actions that return useful follow-up messages. It feels like a real workflow assistant rather than a static bot response.
What we learned
I learned how to build and install a Slack app, configure slash commands, connect a local backend through ngrok, and handle interactive button callbacks inside Slack.
What's next for Gumroad Pay Assistant
Next I would connect the assistant to real creator commerce data, add authentication, generate downloadable reports, support more customer service workflows, and let users approve real actions such as sending emails, creating discounts, or updating a CRM directly from Slack.
