Inspiration

My grandmother, Gumi Lee, had cancer, though she never knew it. There were no tests in her village, no doctors who could explain the strange fatigue, no one to point her toward the right specialist. By the time the truth could have been found, it was too late. I often wondered if only my grandmother had known, if only there had been a way to diagnose the illness and get treatment, then maybe we could have made even more memories together. I remember her struggling in her ending years, unable to get the help she needed - not only from no diagnosis, but also from her community.

What it does

Users can fill out a survey inputting health information and history. Based on the info inputted, a diagnosis is displayed and the top 20 local cancer treatment centers are displayed with a percentage indicating how good of a match it is. Cancer patients can also join support groups with other cancer patients for transportation, emotional support, etc. Patients can choose the specialist they want based on the information provided. A one-on-one chat with them is available to the patient, and

How we built it

We tackled the first problem statement, which was making a support system for cancer patients. For the backend, we used Flask and SQLite in order for a fast yet scalable and secure system, and we used NextJS for a modern front-end UX.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into issues integrating the AI feedback, as well as getting location data from the user and actually implementing it into the UX experience. Additionally, we learned SQLite during the duration of this hackathon.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As mentioned above, we learned SQLite during this hackathon, as well as actually got the app working. We believe this is a real solution to a real problem, and that's what we like the most.

What we learned

We learned the struggles of those battling cancer. Without knowing the exact type, treatment becomes far more difficult, leaving families feeling powerless. Access to the right resources can be the difference between life and death.
