Inspiration
The inspiration came when I wanted to hire someone to accompany me on a visit to Golconda Fort in Hyderabad. I knew the fort was colossal and that I’d need some sort of map or guidance to fully experience it. That’s when the idea struck me...what if locals could host experiences like this? Like taking visitors to the best biryani spots, helping them explore Golconda Fort, or even visiting Charminar. That’s how it all started. Now, locals can sign up and start earning by offering unique, guided experiences — from cultural walks to kite flying on rooftops.
What it does
GullyYatra is a peer-to-peer mobile platform that lets anyone:
- Host local experiences such as food tours, heritage walks, or storytelling sessions.
- Discover curated cultural experiences based in Hyderabad.
- Book experiences with preferred dates and guest count.
- Switch to host mode and manage their own Yatras.
- Earn XP, unlock badges, and simulate rewards through a built-in gamification system.
- Use guest mode or log in with Google to get started.
How we built it
- Built entirely on Bolt.new, a no-code mobile app platform.
- All logic is managed using frontend state; no backend or database integration.
- Included multi-step forms for hosting, booking flows, and image previews.
- Designed a consistent UI with a warm, cultural aesthetic using custom themes, fonts, and layouts.
- Simulated wallet, XP, and badge rewards without needing authentication or payments.
Challenges we ran into
- Structuring user flows for both guests and hosts within the same app.
- Creating multi-step forms using Bolt.new's visual logic.
- Managing all booking and review logic locally using only frontend state.
- Designing fully mobile-responsive screens with no layout breaking.
- Ensuring fluid navigation and state consistency without backend support.
- i couldnt figure out the backend so more to come
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Completed a working MVP covering all the core app experiences.
- Implemented both host and guest flows without backend or payment APIs.
- Developed a gamified experience (XP, badges, streaks) entirely in the frontend.
- Delivered a polished, consistent UI ready for demo in under the hackathon timeframe.
- Created a concept tailored to India's micro-tourism and student gig economy.
What we learned
- Learned how to manage dynamic app state without relying on databases or servers.
- Understood how to build structured, scalable flows in a no-code system.
- Practiced UI/UX thinking by balancing simplicity with interactivity.
- Gained insight into the value of MVP-first thinking and testing early concepts visually.
What's next for GullyYatra
- Integrate a backend (Supabase or Firebase) for persistent user accounts and data.
- Add real-time location services to filter nearby Yatras.
- Enable payment integration for real-world bookings and host payouts.
- Introduce host verification and a messaging system.
- Expand beyond Hyderabad into other culturally rich cities across India.
- Partner with colleges and student communities to promote micro-hosting and side incomes.
