Inspiration

"The best way to predict your future, is to create it!"

I had a friend who, due to lack of guidance, applied for Computer sciences field, but later found out that her interest did not lie there. I myself had opted for biological science in my matriculation (grade 10), but switched to engineering in FSC (grade 12), and later Computer Science Field in NUST. Fortunately, I adapted to it and my interests aligned. But nevertheless, the fact remains that I have these and many more examples where lack of mentorship and career counseling for professional development causes huge problems for young students and often put them into irrevocable situations.

Moreover I'd read an article on Dawn Newspaper which highlighted that Pakistan despite being rich in youth population is unable to take it's benefit. One of the reason stated was the lack of career counselling for secondary and higher education students. So many students end up landing in jobs that do not match their interests, personality and results in depressed potential and less productivity at work.

This inspired me to initiate a professional development system that would help secondary and higher education students in choosing the right path for their future and moving in the right direction, suitable to achieve that path.

What it does

GuleShaoor is a digital platform built to develop secondary and higher education students professionally by building their capacity through career counselling, mentorship, opportunities information, healthy entertainment and a supporting community network. It also gathers expert professionals from all educational sectors, all secondary and higher education institutions and all organizations working for empowerment of youth through any means under a single roof and connect them with students according to their needs.

How we built it

We built it through our passion and motivation to empower Pakistan by empowering it's youth and through utilizing power of our team members in an effective way. Technically, the website is built through html, CSS, react, bootstrap, javascript and firebase and using APIs of google books and Calendly.

Challenges we ran into

The only challenge we faced was a limited time of just three days to built a platform that requires vast areas to work on.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of continuous learning during this hackathon, and managing our time and team effectively.

What we learned

We learned how to brainstorm good ideas for problem solving, how to pitch idea, how to design a prototype and how to manage team and time smoothly.

What's next for GuleShaoor

The system at present built as just a porotype will be developed with many other feature that we were not able to apply now. It will be pitched in startup competitions in future too, with the aim to run it with proper planning and members recruitment. The goal is to not just develop it over international standards, but to provide it's reach to students all across Pakistan.
