Inspiration
We were inspired by the lack of innovation in fields of arts and culture.
What it does
GuitAR is an web app which projects the chords for any song from our wide selection on to user's guitar on their screen so that all they have to do is press the highlighted strings to play the song. This helps in faster learning.
How we built it
We used the Reactjs for the front end, Expressjs for backend and mongodb as our database. We are using library called Arucojs for marked detection for AR. We also use beautifulsoup for building our database of songs.
Challenges we ran into
We encountered multiple challenges during the whole development process but the most notable was writing the algorithms to plot the graphics wrt the marker. This took almost half of our total time. Since our app is very complex for a web app deployment was also an challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One Word - PRECISION Our mapping algorithms give results so precise that we are able to mark guitar's strings with millimeter accuracy. It is especially an achievement because we are running them on the browser which doesn't have the greatest computing power. This was one of the main reasons holding AR applications like this from reaching the masses and we overcame it.
What we learned
More than anything we learned time management. Building something that was never done before in 3 days was extremely difficult but we overcame it. We also learned various web libraries like ArucoJs, GSAP, beautifulsoup and many more.
What's next for GuitAR
Although our performance and accuracy is unmatched, there is still room for improvement. Selling AR kits is another area we want to explore. We also want to collaborate with institutes and universities teaching music to bring cutting edge technology to their students especially in lockdown time where distant learning is at rage.
