Inspiration
We were searching for solution to helping the homeless directly. We realized that by helping connect New Yorkers to those in need, we can help people help others.
What it does
It allows users to report homeless people on a map who are in need and survey whether they need clothes, food or water. This information gets stored on a map and users who are looking to help can access the locations of homeless people in need as well as what they have requested. It's like Amazon Wishlist for homeless people.
How we built it
We used Android Studio, SQL and Google Maps API
Challenges we ran into
-load and store data to sql -create a location in Google Maps, try to show small info on Google Map
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- bringing an idea from a brainstorm to a semi working app
- researching different API's and being able to use them
What we learned
-how to use Android Studio, -different Google servers -save data to sql
What's next for Guilt B Gone
- To connect SQL and Google Maps
- An incentive strategy to keep people helping
- To make a MeetUP extension to be able to get groups together to donate
