Inspiration
Blindness is one of the most overlooked disability, with the increment in technology new gadgets and products keep coming to make the life of people with a disability more manageable, but even though with so much advancement in technology not many products are available for the visually impaired people for cheap
What it does
The software is designed to assist visually impaired individuals by using a camera to capture images of items and then using optical character recognition (OCR) to extract text from the image. The user can then interact with the software using hand gestures to zoom in and out of the image and press a key to save the text to a file. The software also integrates with OpenAI's GPT API to generate a response to a prompt based on the saved text. The software is implemented using Python and various libraries such as OpenCV, pytesseract, and imutils.
How I built it
I started by making a mindmap for my idea on Xmind, and after that, I created a workflow to complete the work within 48 hours. After that, I started to code.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was completing the work on time since I am working alone. I didn't form a team because I wanted to test my limit. While Coding I ran into a bunch of bugs, which were not easy to fix, but in the end, I was able to complete my project and I am very happy that I was able to!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Proud of myself to complete a project on my own within a limited time and was able to overcome all the challenges by myself.
What we learned
How to lay down the foundation for starting a Solo Project. How to debug codes on your own
What's next for GuidingSight
Can add more featureful make it useful in more cases, Can be used for much more, Distance from object Detection to detect nearby objects such as cars, bikes, and dogs, etc. face recognition to identify loved ones from a distance
