Inspiration

After being homeless, I knew that an education of some kind would help with upward mobility as well as personal content. Navigating through the Community College process was daunting. I recognize that students tackling so much more such as being heads of households, food insecurity, and language barriers.

How we built it

We first asked students at our community college and counselors within EOPS (extended opportunity programs & services) how to phrase questions most naturally to those in need without overwhelming them. We also considered students in our local Puente program to account for those who are already institutionally disadvantaged.

Challenges we ran into

A personal goal was to see how far we can push PartyRock in it's customizability. We attempted to inject data from assist.org (a platform hosting transfer agreements to four year institutions) and attempting to generate links. Unfortunately, we could not find a unique solution to this yet.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

If we take the perspective of a college counselor, party rock allows those in Administration to easily create a solution for a huge, underrepresented demographic. We're proud that we were able to phrase the widgets where counselors approved the outputs that were given.

What's next for Guided Pathways

We hope for more customizability and allowing for this to be an internal tool for college districts and social programs throughout the nation. We hope we can include custom datasets and process said datasets to give highly accurate solutions to students in need. We believe an application powered by partyrock can streamline counseling ang give accurate direction.
