Inspiration
New AI tools launch every week, and almost every vendor page claims to be the best at what it does. Prices hide behind book a demo buttons, and most review sites copy each other instead of checking anything. Picking a tool started taking longer than using it. We wanted one place where a person checks the tool first, then writes down what it costs and where it falls short.
What it does
GuideAITools is a directory of AI tools sorted by the job they do: writing, image generation, video, coding, marketing, customer support, productivity and more. Every tool page covers what the tool does, its real pricing taken from the official pricing page, key features, honest pros and cons, and a clear verdict at the end. Alongside the directory we publish toolkits, which are shortlists for one specific job, head to head comparisons, and plain language guides for people buying their first AI tool.
How we built it
The site runs on WordPress with a custom post type for tools and one strict data template that every listing follows. The technology is the simple part. The real system is the review workflow behind it: a tool is researched from its own site and pricing page, the listing is written by a person, checked against a QA list, and only then published. Prices are re-checked from official pages, because tools change them quietly and out of date pricing helps nobody.
Challenges we ran into
Keeping pricing honest is a daily fight, since tools raise prices, rename plans, or move features behind higher tiers without any announcement. A second challenge is trust: paid placements offered as reviews are common in this space, and we said no to that model from the start, which makes growth slower but keeps the verdicts clean. And like any young site, earning search visibility took patience while bigger directories with copied content ranked ahead.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
Thousands of AI tools reviewed and listed by hand, a full category system that maps tools to real jobs, published toolkits for business, legal, recruiting, documents, trading and trip planning work, and a featured tools program where every placement still passes the same manual review.
What we learned
People do not need more AI tools. They need fewer choices they can trust. A short honest verdict with a real price beats a long feature list every time, and readers can tell within seconds whether a review was written by someone who looked at the tool or by someone who copied the landing page.
What's next
More categories as new kinds of AI tools appear, deeper head to head comparisons between close rivals, and keeping every listed price current. The rule stays the same as the catalog grows: if a person has not checked it, it does not get listed. Browse the full directory to explore more AI tools in every category.
