Inspiration

I'm passionate about semantics, and especially about the game Pedantix, a French game where the goal is to guess the title of a Wikipedia page. At first, all the words are hidden, but they gradually appear as the player types them in.
While I was looking for a project idea, I thought: why not create something similar to Pedantix, but based on Reddit posts?

What it does

So I created a game where you have to guess the correct subreddit based on a post whose content is initially hidden but gradually gets revealed.

How we built it

My project is mainly built using WebView with JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenges I overcame during this project were implementing a save system allowing players to resume their game at any time and the semantic hint system.

What we learned

Before starting this project, I had never heard of Devvit. I found it really fun to use, and it helped me understand how embeddings work.

What's next for GuessTheSub

I’d really like to integrate my own embedding algorithm, which isn’t finished yet due to lack of time.
Another feature I’d like to add is a multiplayer mode, where all the words are synchronized for each community. I’m also considering a system where users could submit their own posts.
