Inspiration

We wanted to create a game that brings people together through the universal language of emojis! Emojis are fun, expressive, and often open to interpretation, so we thought, why not turn that into a competitive and interactive game? GuessMoji combines creativity, guessing, and community, making it a perfect recipe for fun and engagement.

What it does

GuessMoji is an emoji-based drawing and guessing game where players can:

  • Draw creative emoji-based illustrations to describe a phrase or idea.
  • Guess what others have drawn and compete for points.
  • Level up to unlock perks and showcase your skills on the leaderboard.

Whether you're the artist creating the drawing or the player trying to decode it, there's always excitement and a challenge waiting for you!

How we built it

We developed GuessMoji using a combination of modern web technologies:

  • Reddit Devvit: To build the frontend and backend features, and being able to deploy the whole thing on Reddit.
  • Community Features: Leveraged Reddit’s API to integrate with the r/GuessMoji subreddit for community engagement.

Challenges we ran into

  • Emoji recognition: Displaying the emojis in ways that made sense

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Building a game that’s both fun and engaging while encouraging creativity and competition.
  • Successfully integrating game mechanics with community features like leveling up, unlocking perks, and fostering player engagement in the r/GuessMoji subreddit.

What we learned

  • How to create intuitive and rewarding game mechanics that keep players coming back.
  • The importance of community-driven development and how player feedback can enhance a game.
  • Technical skills in building using Reddit Devvit

What's next for GuessMoji

We’re just getting started! Here’s what’s coming up:

  • New game modes and challenges: Build new speed run challenges, and game modes
  • New perks and rewards: Exclusive flairs, customizable themes, and more ways to enhance gameplay.
  • AI-powered hints: Adding optional hints for Guessers to make the game more accessible for new players.
  • More Emojis and more intuitive format: Add more emojis, words, and make the game more intuitive
  • Expanded community features: More engagement opportunities in the r/GuessMoji subreddit, like weekly challenges and themed competitions.

Join the fun and let your emojis do the talking—may the best emoji win!
