Inspiration
As gamers, we were inspired to develop a simple yet challenging game that would test our intelligence and communication skills. We immediately thought of the board game called Codenames, and implemented the idea of a multiplayer guessing game.
What it does
The game is set up so that the detective and the hostage must work together to free the hostage. The detective has to take notes of the hints given by the hostage and make educated guesses based on that information. If answered correctly, the door will unlock, thus freeing the hostage. However, if the detective fails to make the correct inference after five tries, the hostage will forever be imprisoned.
How we built it
We built the game using HTML, CSS, and Javascript
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we encountered were getting the background image to appear on the detective’s turn, finding the appropriate background image that fits into the storyline and the screen nicely, and transitioning between the detective and the hostage's turns.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Honestly speaking, we’re proud of everything that we have accomplished because we spent a lot of time trying to solve every problem that we have encountered despite the limited time and experience we had.
What we learned
Through HopperHack, we honed our communication skills and learned the importance of preparation.
What's next for Guess
We plan to use Guess as a reference and learning tool as we work to develop an even better game in the future.
