Inspiration
I use Reddit quite often and noticed that it has many unique terms such as Karma, Upvote, Meme, and Moderator. New users may not know what these words mean. I thought it would be interesting to create a simple game that helps people learn Reddit terms while having fun.
What it does
Guess The Reddit Word is a word guessing game based on Reddit-related vocabulary. Players are given a hint and have six attempts to guess the correct word.
The game includes:
-A hint system -A score counter -A restart function -Automatic next questions after a correct answer -Wordle-style color feedback
How I built it
I built this project using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
HTML was used to create the pages and user interface. CSS was used to improve the appearance of the game. JavaScript was used to implement the game logic, including random word generation, score tracking, attempts counting, hints, and feedback messages.
I also used GitHub to manage and store the project during development.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was implementing the game logic. I had to make sure the score, attempts, hints, and words updated correctly during gameplay.
Another challenge was creating the color feedback system. I needed to compare the player's input with the target word and display different colors depending on whether the letter was correct, misplaced, or not included in the word.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we successfully built a complete and playable web game from scratch using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
What we learned
Through this project, I improved my JavaScript skills and learned more about DOM manipulation and event handling. I also gained experience using GitHub and managing a small web development project from start to finish.
What's next for Guess The Reddit Word
In the future, I would like to continue improving the game by adding more features and content. -Adding multiple difficulty levels -Adding a leaderboard system
