🏄 OG SURFER
Inspiration
We wanted to create a fun, fast-paced surfing game that anyone can pick up and enjoy within seconds. Inspired by classic endless runner games, our goal was to build a simple but engaging experience that encourages players to improve their skills, beat their previous scores, and keep coming back for another run.
The Reddit Games with a Hook Hackathon inspired us to focus on creating a game that is easy to play while providing a satisfying gameplay loop that rewards practice and persistence.
What it does
OG Surfer is an endless surfing game where players ride through an exciting environment while avoiding obstacles and trying to survive for as long as possible. As the game progresses, the speed and difficulty increase, challenging players to improve their reflexes and achieve higher scores.
The game is designed to be lightweight, responsive, and enjoyable for both desktop and mobile users.
How we built it
The project was developed using modern web technologies.
The game was built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, while Three.js was used to create immersive 3D graphics and smooth animations. During the hackathon, the project was integrated with Reddit's Devvit platform so it could be experienced directly within Reddit.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was integrating an existing web game into the Devvit environment and understanding the Reddit Developer Platform. We also spent significant time optimizing gameplay, fixing bugs, improving performance, and ensuring the game worked smoothly across different screen sizes.
Deploying and testing the project inside Reddit required learning a completely new workflow, which was both challenging and rewarding.
Accomplishments that we're proud of

- Integrated the project with Reddit Devvit.
- Created responsive gameplay for different devices.

What we learned
Throughout this hackathon we learned how to build and integrate interactive web applications using Reddit Devvit, improve game performance, manage project deployment, and create a better user experience through continuous testing and iteration.
