Introducing Guess the Breed - the ultimate pet-themed app for Reddit communities!
What is Guess the Breed?
Originally designed for r/guessthebreed and submitted as a Hakathon entry for Devvit 2026 Hakathon. It's a feature-packed Reddit app designed specifically for pet-loving communities. Whether your subreddit is dedicated to dogs, cats, or both - this app transforms everyday pet photos into engaging community experiences.
The Daily Guessing Game
Every day, your community gets a fresh batch of breed-guessing challenges. Members see a photo, type their guess, and race against the clock to identify the breed correctly.
- Timed rounds - How fast can you identify that fluffy face?
- Leaderboards - Compete for the top spot among fellow breed experts
- Freemode - Can't get enough? Play unlimited rounds to sharpen your skills
- Comment your score - Show off your breed knowledge right in the post
"What Breed is My Pet?" - ID Help Posts
We've all seen those posts: "Just adopted this cutie, any guesses on the breed?"
Now your community can respond in style! ID Help posts let members:
- Upload up to 5 photos of their mystery mutt or curious cat
- Watch the community's guesses roll in as a live pie chart
- See which breeds are getting the most votes
- Every guess automatically becomes a comment, sparking discussion
It's collaborative, it's visual, and it actually helps pet owners get answers!
DNA Test Results - Show Off in Style
Got DNA results back from Embark, Wisdom Panel, or another test? Don't just post a boring screenshot!
DNA Results posts let members create beautiful visual breakdowns of their pet's genetic makeup:
- Gorgeous pie charts showing breed percentages
- Photo gallery of their genetically-verified good boy/girl
- A dedicated post format that makes DNA results actually interesting to browse
User-Created "Guess My Pet" Challenges
Your members can create their own guessing games! They upload a photo, enter the breed, and challenge the community to guess correctly.
- First to guess correctly gets bragging rights on the leaderboard
- Automatic pinned comments celebrate correct guessers
- Post authors get prompted to share fun facts about their pet
