Inspiration

We were inspired by the nostalgia and popularity of Pokémon, and wanted to create a simple yet fun game that challenges players’ memory and visual recognition of their favorite creatures. The idea was to recreate the iconic "Who's That Pokémon?" segment in an interactive web format.

What it does

The game shows a silhouette or blurred image of a random Pokémon, and the player has to guess its name. Once submitted, the real image is revealed with a success or failure message. It's a quick, engaging test for Pokémon fans.

How we built it

We built it using bolt.new in a single command, leveraging Bolt’s instant component-driven design and AI-powered asset generation. It auto-handled image imports, UI transitions, and Pokémon API integration with minimal setup.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was aligning image rendering with randomized selection logic while keeping it fast and responsive. Ensuring accurate answer validation (accounting for spelling variants or typos) also required some fine-tuning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that it was built using just one command, yet delivers a fully functional and polished user experience. The game’s simplicity and nostalgic appeal really connected with testers.

What we learned

We learned how flexible Bolt is for rapid game development and how easy it is to tie in external APIs or assets with a minimal learning curve. Even complex ideas can be prototyped in minutes.

What's next for Guess Pokémon

We plan to add difficulty levels, a timer-based scoring system, hints, leaderboards, and multiplayer modes for added replayability and challenge.
