Inspiration
I love guerilla gardening because I think that a lot of current actions against climate change are about stopping doing something, which while is very important guerilla gardening is all about creating something of your own, which has a positive impact on your local area and ecosystem.
What it does
The website aims to make starting your own garden less intimidating. It can be very hard to know where to start, so the website aims to break it down into simple steps and to give simple explanations of everything you need to know. It will hopefully in the future allow you to connect with other enthusiasts, and discover other local guerilla gardening projects.
How we built it
I used the QOOM tutorial to build my home page, and used some tutorials online to figure out other aspects such as the drop down menu and specific layouts.
Challenges we ran into
This was my first time coding in HTML, and I was pretty much learning from scratch. Maybe not the smartest idea, but doing this hackathon really jumpstarted my undestanding of the language and gave me inspiration. I spent a very long time trying and failing to add an account database and a forum, but I think I was trying to learn stuff too advanced for me at this early stage.
What we learned
I learnt about all the potential I can have programming in HTML, as a language I didn't know abour before I am really excited to learn it properly now.
What's next for Guerilla Gardening Guru
My plan is to scale back a bit and learn more of the basics of HTML. I want to build up my foundation; hopefully I can soon return to the project and finish it as a polished website.
