Inspiration
Inspired by the need for safer travel, Guardian Gaze was born to help users navigate more securely through urban areas by providing insights on crime-prone regions. With rising concerns around personal safety, especially in unfamiliar locations, we wanted to create a tool that leverages technology to empower users to make safer choices. By combining real-time data with machine learning, Guardian Gaze aims to enhance confidence and awareness, helping users find the safest possible routes.
What It Does
Guardian Gaze provides users with a safe route-planning application, offering optimized paths based on crime rates in specific areas. It displays real-time maps and allows users to input their destination, showing recommended routes that avoid high-crime areas. Integrated with Firebase for secure user authentication and MongoDB for storing user preferences and travel history, it creates a personalized and protected experience.
How We Built It
Flutter and Dart were used for cross-platform app development, making Guardian Gaze compatible with both iOS and Android devices, ensuring a broad reach. Integrated Google Maps API and Ola Maps API for accurate regional mapping and to provide users with familiar and detailed map views. Used Firebase Authentication for secure login, ensuring that user data is safely managed within the app. MongoDB serves as our primary database, efficiently storing crime data, user preferences, and route information. Machine learning algorithms analyze historical crime data, helping the app determine and suggest the safest route options based on trends and patterns in specific areas.
Challenges We Ran Into
Integrating real-time crime data and ensuring it aligns with the mapped routes required extensive API handling and data processing. Balancing app performance with data-heavy features like real-time routing and map rendering posed technical challenges. Managing cross-platform compatibility with Flutter while also handling secure authentication and database connections was complex and required careful design. Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of Successfully built a robust, cross-platform app that provides users with a safe travel option based on real-time crime data. Integrated machine learning to offer personalized route recommendations that enhance user safety and awareness. Created a smooth, user-friendly experience with secure data handling, ensuring both safety and privacy for app users.
What We Learned
Deepened our understanding of cross-platform app development with Flutter and its potential for seamless UI/UX across iOS and Android. Gained valuable insights into working with map APIs and optimizing real-time data analysis for route planning based on crime statistics. Strengthened our knowledge of machine learning applications within safety-focused projects and honed skills in Firebase and MongoDB integration.
What’s Next for Guardian Gaze
Enhance machine learning models to improve predictive accuracy for route safety, incorporating more data points and user feedback. Add features such as alerts for crime hotspots and real-time notifications when users enter high-risk areas.
