Inspiration

Guard Eye Lite was inspired by a simple but critical reality: many elderly people live alone, and the most dangerous moments are often not the fall itself, but the minutes and patterns leading up to it. Family members and caregivers want to help, but they are often alerted too late—or not at all. We wanted to create a solution that allows the right people to act at the right moment, before a minor instability becomes a serious injury.

What it does

Guard Eye Lite transforms any camera-equipped device into an intelligent safety companion. Using Gemini 3’s multimodal reasoning, it analyzes human movement over time to detect falls, near-falls, wandering, and unusual inactivity. Instead of simple alerts, it provides risk assessment, recommended actions, and clear explanations so caregivers and family members can respond appropriately and confidently.

How we built it

We built a web-based application using live camera feeds or simulated video inputs. Lightweight local logic monitors motion and triggers Gemini 3 only when safety-relevant changes occur. Gemini 3 performs vision understanding, temporal reasoning, decision-making, and natural-language explanations, making it the core intelligence of the system.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing real-time responsiveness with accurate reasoning was a key challenge. We also focused on minimizing false alarms while still catching subtle but meaningful risk signals like near-falls and gradual instability.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Detecting near-falls, not just falls
  • Real-time reasoning without wearables or hardware
  • Clear, human-readable explanations for every alert
  • A solution accessible to anyone with a camera

What we learned

We learned that safety is not about detection alone—it’s about context, timing, and trust. Reasoning-based AI dramatically improves decision quality in sensitive real-world scenarios.

What's next for Guard Eye Lite (Reasoning-Based Vision Safety with Gemini 3)

Next, we plan to add personalized behavior baselines, caregiver dashboards, and optional secure notifications, expanding Guard Eye Lite into a scalable, intelligent home-care safety platform.
