Inspiration
Like GT Scheduler helps GT students schedule classes, there exists a need to help GT students find universities where they can take classes for GT credit when not on campus.
What it does
Our project helps students find classes at universities in their state where they can choose to take classes for GT credit. The student will enter the class they wish to take credit for into the search bar and then the site will return a list of universities and course numbers they can use to fulfill that credit.
How we built it
We built a webscraper that navigated through Georgia Tech's course transfer equivalency pages, combing across over 2000 pages and drawing data on more than 70000 classes that Georgia Tech students can take for transfer credit.
Challenges we ran into
Collecting data from so many different pages across formatting inconsistencies proved to be challenging. Additionally, we faced some difficulty in choosing which tech stack to use.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We feel that we accomplished a lot after talking with many of our fellow competitors as they felt that they would be able to make good use of this information and would actively assist them during their time at Georgia Tech.
What we learned
We realized that using simple architectures can be incredibly beneficial as we also realized the importance of not overengineering.
What's next for GT Transfer
We hope to continue with this project by adding more features to the search by adding more support for international classes and adding more features that would enable users to search by proximity to a location.
