Inspiration
Nostalgia-core. But with a twist. We wanted to re-discover new songs from over the ages, from a variety of different locations—let's go international with music, and see where it takes us!
What it does
Enter a decade and country you want to hear music from, and GruVee gives you a list of songs satisfying those inputs.
How we built it
We used Python to create the application, utilising the Tkinter and SpotiPy libraries to create a GUI and manage API responses.
Challenges we ran into
We had a hard time figuring out how to use the SpotiPy library search queries to give us the songs that we wanted. It was really fussy, with documentation that didn't seem to match the outputs we were receiving. Honestly? It was a massive struggle.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We figured out to use the Spotify API! We tried to use Cohere, realized it really wasn't working for us, and pivoted to something different. We are proud of our versatility. Also, GruVee is a cool name.
What we learned
How to use SpotiPy (sort of), and also how bad some of the documentation for SpotiPy is. Also, the power of friendship and networking!
What's next for GruVee
It's a really basic idea with a really basic GUI and a really basic implementation. In the future, we could add a variety of other search criteria, and tons of other features (tons!) and up the GUI into something fancy and beautiful. We'd be interested in really diving into nostalgia-core and other aesthetics. This could work great as a bot or an extension to a music app.
