Inspiration

Finding reliable, skilled contractors for home projects is often a stressful and time-consuming process for homeowners. On the flip side, talented contractors frequently struggle to find consistent work without spending heavily on marketing. We realized there was a desperate need for a reliable "third man"—a bridge built on trust and efficiency. Since Gruham means "home," we were inspired to create a platform that makes taking care of your home as seamless and stress-free as possible.

What it does

GRUHAM is a dedicated intermediary platform that seamlessly connects customers needing home services with qualified, available contractors. It provides a simplified way for customers to post project requirements, browse professionals, and initiate contact. For contractors, it acts as a lead-generation tool, providing a steady stream of local projects. GRUHAM manages the initial handshake, ensuring both parties can connect securely and efficiently to get the job done.

How we built it

We built the entire application using Base44. By leveraging Base44's rapid development environment, we were able to quickly design a dual-interface system—one tailored for the customer experience and another for the contractor dashboard. We utilized its built-in database management to handle user profiles, project listings, and the core routing logic that matches a customer's request to the right contractor.

Challenges we ran into

Building a two-sided marketplace comes with unique hurdles. Our main challenges included designing an intuitive interface that is equally easy to navigate for a homeowner requesting a quick fix and a contractor managing multiple job leads. We also had to figure out how to structure the data architecture in Base44 effectively so that our "third man" logic smoothly connects the right customer to the right contractor without data overlaps.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are incredibly proud of successfully developing and deploying a fully functional, two-sided marketplace in a highly condensed timeframe. Mastering the Base44 platform allowed us to turn a complex workflow into a smooth, functional application. We created a clean, accessible solution that tackles a very real, everyday problem.

What we learned

We learned the mechanics of building and balancing a two-sided platform where supply (contractors) and demand (customers) must be handled simultaneously. We also gained deep insights into rapidly prototyping and iterating on application logic using Base44's architecture, and realized the immense importance of user-centric design when building for non-technical users.

What's next for GRUHAM

We plan to implement a robust background check and licensing verification system for contractors to maximize customer trust. Next on the roadmap is adding secure in-app messaging and a payment gateway to keep the entire transaction safe and within the app. We also aim to build a community-driven review and rating engine so top-performing contractors are rewarded with higher visibility.
