🌱 Inspiration

We wanted to make something that connects the digital world with real impact — something that actually rewards you for being kind to the planet. The idea of a living, breathing tree that grows when you do good things in real life felt poetic and powerful. Instead of points or badges, your growth is visible through nature itself.

🌿 What It Does

GrowVana is a web-based game where users grow a virtual tree by performing real-world eco-friendly actions.

You log your deeds — recycling, saving electricity, planting trees, helping clean public spaces — and our AI evaluates how genuine and impactful those actions are.

If the AI confirms it’s a meaningful environmental act, your tree grows from a small seed to a vibrant, fruit-bearing tree. The more you help the planet, the more life your tree gains.

🛠️ How We Built It

Frontend: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the main site with soft, calming visuals inspired by Dumb Ways to Die’s aesthetic.

Backend: Node.js & Firebase to manage user data, progress, and AI scoring results.

AI Integration: Used OpenAI/Gemini APIs for natural language understanding — it analyzes user input to check if an action truly benefits the environment.

Design: Tailwind CSS + Framer Motion for smooth transitions and animations.

Media: Custom-generated stage-based animations (seed → sprout → plant → tree → fruit tree).

⚔️ Challenges We Ran Into

Teaching the AI to detect real eco-friendly actions instead of random or fake submissions.

Making the tree’s growth animation feel emotionally connected to user progress.

Keeping the UI peaceful and minimalist without it feeling empty.

Built a fully functional prototype that gamifies kindness and sustainability.

Created an AI model that scores environmental impact intelligently.

Designed animations that make users emotionally attached to their digital tree.

💡 What We Learned

That small design choices can deeply influence emotion. That AI can help motivate good behavior if used responsibly. And most importantly, that people love seeing their impact when it’s made visual and alive.

Photo/video proof system: Users can upload evidence for AI validation.

Community forest: Groups of people grow a shared tree together.

Mobile app: With daily challenges, streaks, and local leaderboard features.

AR mode: View your digital tree in the real world through your phone camera.
