Inspiration

Our teammates have an interest in nature and the outdoors, and we like the idea of rewilding local areas with the plants that dominated a few hundred years ago. Modern plantings of non-native vegetation have reduced biodiversity, including insect and bird populations, and common landscaping practices are polluting our home. We hope to inspire and facilitate others to confidently plant native plants, which support our local wildlife.

What it does

We scan for native plants from a database and compare them to a main plant for features like light and soil pH, identifying and sorting the best companion plants for the area.

Obstacles

The team members are new to database APIs and the Python modules we used. Also, some of the data we used was pretty sparse, and it required cleaning.
