The inspiration for this application came to us when we realized that many people are not aware of their contribution to negatively affecting our environment.

In order to create awareness for the environmental damages, we decided to place a monetary value on it. By tracking an individuals expenses, our app intends to convert the expenses of common fossil fuels to the amount of carbon dioxide released into out environment.

By placing a monetary value on the environmental damages, our app hopes to make the user aware of their spending habits, as well as how they are harming the environment. In addition, our app doubles as a budget tracker that determines whether or not you are in debt, approaching debt, or in a good financial standing. The user also has the freedom to view their previous expenses, and carbon dioxide releases.

This app was built on android studio using Java, and we have a basic demo available to show the technical feasibility of our app. In addition, we have created an online prototype to show the complete usage and visual representation of the finished product of our app. The next stages for GrowGreen would be to implement a leaderboard system that would allow the user to compare their spending and carbon dioxide release with their community. In addition, we would like to create a rewards system that would encourage the user to make a significant impact on their savings, and the environment!
