Inspiration
As students, we are always struggling to manage our time efficiently. We put such high priority on work and academics, that we forget to make genuine time for other important things as well like our loved ones, and time for ourselves. We wanted to create a website, that encourages you to be on top of your tasks and to get stuff done, so you can make more time for your timeless moments.
What it does
This is a website that allows users to effectively manage their tasks. However, this isn’t just one of the normal task management sites where you just check your tasks off. On our site, as the user completes their tasks, they get points/coins based on the task's priority. Then the user is allowed to use their points at the rewards shop to buy new things for their current animal/plant. Right now we have it set up so that the user first starts with the plant, but basically, the idea is that when a task gets done, you get points, and you use the points in the reward section to buy things to take care of the plant such as water, and access to sunlight. Your ultimate goal is to grow your plant into a tree or level up (through the XP system based on the number of tasks completed) to unlock other animals or plants to care for. The user is also able to talk to our AI model for general plant growth or talk to it for motivation support.
How we built it
We built it by first brainstorming on the iPad, and we designed the UX design by drawing it. Then we headed to actual implementation, while one of us worked on the Figma prototype and frameworks, the other one worked on the code. We used the Figma code, generated it onto replit, and then enlisted the Gemini API to work through the code, fix certain errors, and help us create our Chat Ai bot.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges with vscode not working too well on Mac, and also we didn’t have any experience with Figma either or much experience coding so everything that we did, we learned from the ground up. We also were unfamiliar with GitHub so we spent quite a bit of time trying to connect the split to the GitHub repository.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of ourselves for being creative and efficiently working together! Also very proud of ourselves for showing up even when uncertain, and doing our best!
What we learned
We learned how to use Figma to streamline our coding process.
What's Next for Grow Your Time
We would like to implement an option for users to see their tasks in calendar view, be able to add reminders, and events, along with options to flag priority, change the colors of each task depending on tags the user has created, block access to websites and apps that user specifies for user-specified duration of time, Pomodoro timer, and also have it be synchronized to google calendar or iMac calendar. We would also like to expand on our Chat Bot so that we can have it help users with generating schedules or help with better task management.
