Inspiration
Children's clothing has one of the shortest lifecycles in retail. Parents frequently purchase new clothes as their children grow, while perfectly usable garments are often stored away, donated, or discarded. We were inspired to create a solution that reduces textile waste while helping families save money and giving Carter's better visibility into future consumer demand.
What it does
Grow With Us is a peer-to-peer children's clothing exchange platform that supports a circular apparel economy. Parents can exchange outgrown clothing with nearby families, use an AI Size Predictor to anticipate future clothing needs, and track their sustainability impact. The platform also provides Carter's with business intelligence through demand forecasting, inventory insights, regional demand trends, and circular supply chain analytics.
How we built it
We designed a web platform with separate consumer and business experiences. The consumer dashboard focuses on clothing exchanges, personalized size predictions, and sustainability tracking. The business dashboard provides analytics on inventory patterns, forecasted demand, and marketplace activity. We incorporated AI concepts to predict future clothing sizes based on child growth trends and used industrial engineering principles to model inventory balancing and demand forecasting.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was differentiating our idea from existing resale marketplaces, like Depop or Facebook Marketplace. We addressed this by focusing on the forecasting and analytics layer rather than simply facilitating exchanges. Another challenge was balancing the needs of both consumers and Carter's while ensuring sustainability remained at the center of the solution.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a solution that delivers value to multiple stakeholders. Rather than building just another marketplace, we developed a concept that combines AI, sustainability, and industrial engineering principles. We are especially proud of the AI Size Predictor, the business analytics dashboard, and the Sustainability Impact Dashboard that quantifies environmental benefits.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned how circular economy principles can be combined with data analytics to create both environmental and business value. We also gained a deeper understanding of how forecasting, inventory optimization, and consumer behavior data can be leveraged to reduce waste and improve supply chain decision-making.
What's next for Grow With Us
Future development would focus on refining the AI prediction models, expanding regional exchange networks, and integrating directly with Carter's inventory and demand planning systems. We also envision incorporating enhanced sustainability reporting and additional analytics that help retailers make more informed production and distribution decisions while keeping more clothing in circulation.
