Inspiration
I’ve been creating games on UGC platforms for a while, and I love how chill the UGC community is. It’s not too serious, but the possibilities are endless. Grow a Monstro is inspired by Alien Invasion RPG though it quickly grew into something very different.
What it does
In Grow a Monstro, you gather food for your monster, upgrade your stats, and grow your Monstro to become larger and larger. It’s about progression, collecting, and satisfaction. You can unlock new Monstros that have different abilities.
How I built it
I built the entire game myself using the Horizon AI helper. I didnt write a single line of code! Every asset is either AI-generated or from the public asset library, but all the design, balancing, and ideas are 100% mine. It was a back-and-forth process of prompting, fine-tuning, breaking things, fixing them again, and learning as I went.
Challenges we ran into
The AI helper gave me plenty of gray hairs. Sometimes it misunderstood my prompts, broke working systems, or forced me to revert to backups. Getting everything to cooperate took A LOT of time.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I’m proud that I managed to build a real, playable game, solo, with no coding background. AI is pretty cool.
What I learned
I learned not to give up. I wanted to many times, but by some miracle, we made it.
What’s next for Grow a Monstro!
Next up: polish polish polish. More monsters, more biomes, social features, refined economy. Basically, more everything. This is just the beginning.
