Inspiration
With the ongoing pandemic and the new system of online learning, the struggle of finding a study group was created, sparking our inspiration for this app
What it does
GroupStudy helps to find study groups for individuals who want to study together. It works by creating group ‘listings’ that students can attend at their choosing.
How we built it
We came up with the design and idea of this whole web app with the simple use of a whiteboard and Google Docs. From there, to implement and actually create the application, we used the React.js and paired it with TailwindCSS for styling.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a couple of problems when creating our app. With React.js, we ran into trouble with the react router as it was the first time any of us used it, but we got the hang of it fairly quickly. We also ran into issues while trying to make the whole website responsive.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of our major accomplishments is overcoming the obstacles we ran into earlier. As previously mentioned, making the website responsive and working with the react router took quite some time. Coming up with ideas, and finalizing/deciding on one for the pitch took quite some time as well.
What we learned
Throughout the process of building this application we learned that we have to attack the problem with steps and that we cannot do it all at once. Moreover, to get the best results we found it was best to break down each task rather than doing it all at once. Of course, we made a lot of progress working as a Group!
What's next for GroupStudy
In the future we hope to expand this idea into a fully running and automated website that students can use at any time with anyone around the world. We are also working towards adding a video call feature where students can join a study group and interact with each other through a video call.
