Inspiration
We wanted to buy custom shirts with our frat logo on it, but found that it was really expensive to buy the shirts individually, so we were tasked with getting a group together to buy the shirts. There weren't enough people in our local chapter interested, so we had to go out to other chapters to see if others were interested too, and found that managing this became really difficult. There had to be a better way.
What it does
Groups Fund allows groups to pool their money together to fund a project. Whether it be a tshirt (like us!) or a gaming party or even a fun trip, Groups Fund enables groups to fund their projects.
How we built it
We decided to build our app using ReactJS, NodeJS, Typed.js, Firebase, and Heroku as our main tech stack.
Challenges we ran into
We wanted to dramatically reduce the friction for funding things in a group. Venmo was too hacky, Kickstarter too much of a commitment. We tried to come up with a way to make it as easy as possible to get the ball rolling for your project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we're still super into the idea. We think there is a lot of potential for clubs and organizations on college campuses.
What's next for Groups Fund
We hope to launch a fully functional platform in the next month or two!
