Inspiration

The inspiration for Groupify came from a personal problem. As a student, I often wanted to meet people with similar interests, goals, and ambitions, whether for hackathons, projects, learning, or simply making meaningful connections. Finding the right people was much harder than expected. Existing platforms focused on networking and messaging, but none truly helped users discover highly compatible teammates or communities. This led to a simple question: what if an AI agent could find the right people for you? That idea became Groupify.

What it does

Groupify is an AI-powered team formation and community discovery platform. Users create profiles with their skills, interests, goals, and availability. The AI agent analyzes this information and intelligently recommends compatible teammates, project collaborators, and communities. Instead of manually searching through hundreds of profiles, users can simply describe what they are looking for, and Groupify helps them find the most relevant matches.

How we built it

We built Groupify using Google Cloud, Gemini, and MongoDB. MongoDB stores user profiles, interests, skills, projects, and community information. Gemini powers the reasoning layer, allowing the agent to understand user goals and identify meaningful matches. The platform combines profile analysis, compatibility scoring, and intelligent recommendations to create a seamless team-building experience.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was designing a matching system that goes beyond simple keyword comparisons. People may have similar goals but different skill levels, interests, or availability. We also had to think carefully about how to make recommendations feel meaningful and personalized rather than random. Balancing technical implementation with a simple and intuitive user experience was another major challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of building an AI agent that focuses on solving a real-world problem faced by students, developers, and creators. Instead of acting as a traditional chatbot, Groupify actively helps users discover opportunities, teammates, and communities. We are also proud of creating a concept that can be applied to hackathons, startups, educational communities, research groups, and professional networking.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned how AI agents can move beyond answering questions and start helping users take meaningful actions. We gained experience with agent-based workflows, profile intelligence, recommendation systems, and integrating Gemini with MongoDB-backed applications. We also learned the importance of designing AI systems around real human problems.

What's next for Groupify

Our next goal is to make Groupify fully autonomous. Future versions could automatically create teams, schedule meetings, recommend projects, suggest events, and continuously improve recommendations based on user interactions. We also plan to expand beyond team formation into a complete AI-powered collaboration ecosystem that helps people find the right opportunities and communities throughout their journey.
