Inspiration
Picture this: You’re at the library at 2 am cramming for your calculus final. You pack up your stuff to leave, but you’re afraid to walk back home at night and don’t know what to do. This is not uncommon: 80% of women in Canada have experienced public harassment, and 45% of women do not feel safe walking alone at night.
What it does
Group Walkr aims to solve that. Basically, this application allows university students to find groups of people to walk with. You sign up with your student email, and you can create or join groups near by to walk with in a particular direction. The app will tell you where and when the group is leaving. There are several safety features, including an emergency call button, a friend notification system, and a reporting system that is tied to the students’ university profiles. There is also a review and point system to increase safety and user engagement.
