Inspiration

Everyone loses their tabs. That important homework assignment, that pasta making YouTube tutorial and the link to your email are all lost in a meaningless sea of tabs. It is an absolute pain to search for a single tab and so much time is lost. How can we group tabs in a meaningful and coherent way to boost productivity and save time?

What it does

group.ai first generates a list of tabs, then scans their content. After scanning the content of each tab, it'll place them into different groups by topics/relevancy.

How we built it

group.ai was built using Javascript and Python.

Challenges we ran into

-First time using Javascript: Javascript was required for the construction of the extension, but none of our team members knew Javascript! Learning Javascript was a fun and challenging experience. We are thankful for the helpful resources of the Internet and the many tutorials that taught us how to code with Javascript.

-First time using Flask: We had difficulty setting up a rest API, but we persevered through it!

-Time Management and Project Organization: At the start of the event, a struggle we faced, was time management. The event kicked off with a lack of accessibility to Wifi and our team members found ourselves trying to find a place where we could work. In the end, through encouragement and discipline, we found places to work and focus, setting obtainable goals and tasks for every member, to maximize productivity

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-We slept! Thanks to our good time management skills, we all got some good sleep. The next morning, we felt empowered and refreshed to continue working on our project.

-We created an actual product that works!

-We completed our first ever hackathon!

What we learned

-We learned a new coding language: Although it was a struggle to learn Javascript, it feels satisfying to have persevered through the challenges and the many error messages we faced.

-Learning time management and organizational skills: We got sleep! We set boundaries for work. We set goals and expectations

-We learned more about the mechanisms of machine learning: The best way to learn about machine learning, is to utilize it!

We hope to release group.ai on the Chrome Web Store soon, to help increase the productivity of everyone worldwide. Through the power of group.ai, we can make a positive impact in the world, save time, increase organization and inspire others to reach their highest potential through organization, powered by machine learning.
