Inspiration

We took inspiration from our Data Science assignment and module in semester 1 under the great teaching guidance by Prof Daisy

What it does

By accessing the link in "Try it out Link", it would lead to a google drive containing our Jupyter notebook. The tester should utilise the NUS_DATATHON_CHAMPION_Group 34 and there is an error there is an alternative Jupyter Notebook named as NUS_DATATHON_CHAMPIONS GROUP_NUS 34_ALTERNATIVE.

The model takes in a data frame containing several features regarding the business and predicts the future domestic sales figures.

How we built it

With the knowledge that we have, we decided to breakdown the data and clean it up first in order to simplify the data and keep significant inputs. We then split it into train and test and used N folds to ensure that the distribution is fair.

Challenges we ran into

As year one students with no prior experience in coding before entering NUS, we were not very confident with using Python and wanted to stick to something we were familiar with, which is R. It took a lot of time and focus to learn this language "from scratch."

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of taking the step to participate in this competition and getting out of our comfort zone by coding in a language that we are not confident in. We're proud of our exchange of ideas and our recollection of what we learned last semester, applying it here. Moreover, we tried to learn concepts that we've never encountered before, and although it was a challenge to do so ourselves, we are proud of our efforts in wanting to learn something new through this experience.

What we learned

We learnt different supervised learning models and became more familiar with different packages like panda, seaborn, matpotlib and scikit learn.

What's next for Group 34 Submission

We shall see, only time will tell.
