Inspiration
Our goal is to encourage a sense of group achievements instead of individual achievements. Our app allows users to create groups and set goals for that group. We discourage competition between users by intentionally hiding details of individual users.
What it does
Our app tracks the progress of group goals. It adds the contribution of each user without disclosing the contribution to the users.
How we built it
We built the app using Android Studio, and it was primarily written in Java.
Challenges we ran into
This is our first time joining a Hackathon and we're only a team of two, so this was extremely challenging to us. We have a lot of trouble implementing Firebase into our app and our app was initially poorly designed and had to be redesigned.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have joined a Hackathon and create a product in the end, even though the product is not as good as we hope it would be.
What we learned
Even though the result of our project wasn't satisfactory, it was a valuable experience for us especially as Hackathon beginners. We had the opportunity to learn new technologies such as Firebase authentication and Realtime database. And more importantly we got to know how a Hackathon works.
What's next for Group+
The app will need to be further refined, the app will be able to track other types of goals and allow users to create new groups and join existing groups. The database of the app will need to be restructured to allow more users to use the app and the UI needs to be designed.
