Inspiration
As students, we’re constantly trying to eat healthy without breaking the bank. But the tools available today are fragmented:
- Apps like Flip help you find coupons, but don’t guide you on what to cook.
- Meal or nutrition apps provide recipes, but ignore your budget or local grocery prices. We wanted one platform that brings everything together — a place where you can discover healthy meals and shop smart at the same time. That’s how Pomegranate was born.
What it does
Pomegranate is an all-in-one platform that helps users: Get healthy meal recommendations tailored to their dietary goals. Automatically match recipes with local grocery deals. Track the cost per serving, total weekly spending, and nutritional balance.
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
Hard to design a recommendation system that was helpful but not overwhelming. Balancing:
- User budget
- Nutrition goals
- Ingredient availability
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Keeping the experience smooth while running multiple scoring computations.
What we learned
Real-world data is rarely clean so preprocessing is critical. Cost and nutrition optimization is a genuine applied problem involving trade-offs. Users value simplicity over endless features.
