Inspiration
This December, thousands of flights from Southwest airlines were cancelled due to poor managment, leaving people stressed and on their own to get home.
What it does
Our website allows these stranded travelers to find the quickest available flight to their original destination.
How we built it
We forked the American Airlines Flight-Engine in order to add extra functionality such as how many passengers are on each plane, how many are on standby, and what airline the plane belongs to. Our app finds the next available flight for the destination that day, preferring in-network changes.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into the issue of trying to link everything up within Velo by Wix. Instead of continuing to use Typescript, we had to switch to Javascript for everything to process right. It was also difficult trying to find a problem to improve upon in the flight industry, as many of our initial proposals were either being worked on, or were already existing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully deploying both a Node.js application and a website with minimal experience on both.
What we learned
We learned a lot about Wix website development along with Node.js, Javascript, and Typescript
What's next for Grounded
Grounded would expand its services as such: Look into future days flights as well, factor in price, show train or other transportation routes in case all planes are grounded.
