Inspiration In Sri Lanka, many families struggle with rising food costs and poor meal planning. While AI is transforming global industries, everyday people here still shop manually often overspending or lacking proper nutrition. We saw an opportunity to build a tool that combines cultural familiarity with modern intelligence. That’s how GroceryGenius+ was born.

What it does GroceryGenius+ is a hyper-personalized AI meal and grocery planner designed for Sri Lankans. Users input: Household size Budget (LKR) Diet (vegetarian, diabetic, etc.) Health or work goals (e.g., fitness, long workdays, tourism) Duration (1 week, 2 weeks, or 1 month) Location

It then generates: A complete shopping list with pricing A meal plan with breakfast, lunch, and dinner A store recommendation based on mock price comparisons Health insights matched to their lifestyle or goals

🔧 How we built it Bolt.new was used to design all user flows The AI prompt engine powers meal logic, diet filtering, and cultural adaptation A code block simulates multi-store price comparison (Cargills, Keells, Glomark) Plans adjust dynamically by input values like budget, diet, duration, and location Meal outputs are formatted in clean markdown for easy display

Challenges we ran into GPT struggled to generate 30-day meal plans without repetition Keeping the grocery cost under budget while meeting health goals Making the meal suggestions culturally appropriate for diverse Sri Lankan users Simulating price data realistically with no live APIs

What's next for GroceryGenius+ Connect to real grocery store APIs or Airtable price databases Add WhatsApp and SMS access for low-tech users Allow checkout, delivery, or cart linking (PickMe Flash, UberDirect) Launch vendor portals so stores can upload price sheets and live stock Monetize with subscription plans, affiliate groceries, or AI add-ons
