Inspiration
In the current COVID-19 pandemic, our food banks’ needs are at an all-time high. At the same time, donating food and other necessities is difficult and potentially dangerous due to social distancing rules. Our app aims to make donating to food banks convenient and safe, as well as to make sure each food bank is receiving supplies that they are low on
What it does
Grocery Run is an Android app where users can create shopping lists and will be recommended to add on items that their local food banks need the most at the time.
How we built it
We created an updatable database of grocery store and food bank data using Firebase’s Firestore and used Android Studio to create the app interface
Challenges we ran into
The main challenges we faced were collecting store inventory data and sharing a filled cart with the user. We decided that we would request API keys from large suppliers such as Walmart and Loblaw.

What we learned
What's next for Grocery Run
Improved UI: We would like to make the user interface more intuitive. Our idea for the future is to make the list look like the notes app, where most people write their grocery lists. As well, we would like to show the user the pictures and costs of their options.
More API’s: We would like to increase the number of store apis on our app, so that users can find a greater variety of options.
