Inspiration
In recent years, shopping for groceries has become not just a task, but a whole activity that involves going to a series of different stores to get the exact items you need. On top of this, it can be difficult to keep track of which of your favorite stores have the products you want for the best price. When trying to budget and be the most costly you can be, finding the best deals can really make a difference in spending habits. Grocery Lister is a financial hack that helps make this process easier. Using our web app, users are able to search across several grocery stores and chains close by to them. The search algorithm finds items meeting your search criteria across all of those stores, and lists the best deals first. Grocery Lister then allows you to add the products you find to your individual Shopping List, or go directly to the store site to purchase your product there.
What it does
Saves you money by finding the most cost effective groceries near you.
How we built it
Python with Flask and Javascript with React.js. HTML and CSS for style.
Challenges we ran into
We implemented a lot more features than necessary for a hackathon leading to this taking the full 24 hours.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The backend and its SQL usage, as well as the scrapers used to find the prices across several store websites.
What we learned
To limit the features we plan in this time frame.
What's next for Grocery Lister
More stores added, more functionality, and finishing the Shopping List page.
