Inspiration
The pain of coming home after grocery shopping and realizing the last of the milk is gone.
Current Problems and App Solution
Picture this: you are finishing are pouring a box of cereal and but to your dismay its only a few crumbs come out. You think to add it to your grocery list, or to start a grocery list. But it doesnt happen, and next time you go to the store, you forget about the cereal, and you come home no cereal and unhappy. With the Grocery List App, you can scan theb box of cereal when it is in your hand and not the product is added to your grocery list with the brand and item name! Or you eat something nice at someone elses house, they show you the "secret ingredient", you type it in your phone, but when you get to the store, you forget the brand name. With the Grocery list app just scan and go, you have all the info you need.
Why is the technology you have used really necessary for us?
The most important part of this app is the Open Food Facts API - https://world.openfoodfacts.org/data. As this is where all the data about the products comes from.
How we built it
React-native, Expo, Firebase, Open Food Facts API
Challenges we ran into
Unfortunately I could not implement updating the qauntity based on how many times a products was scanned, if I had more time I would add a function to manually update the qauntity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
First time using an API in a project.
What we have learned
How to use and API.
What's next for us
Next steps would be adding more information from the api to the display, including pictures, health facts, etc.
